Finkelstein and Wang Earn Co-Freshmen Of The Year

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team picked up a pair of honors on the first night of the 2012 Mountain West Championship Tournament.
Mayko Chwen Wang and Dana Finkelstein earned 2012 Mountain West Co-Freshmen of the Year, announced the conference office tonight following the first round of the tournament championship.
The co-honors mark just the second time in conference history that a freshman duo shared the award and first by teammates. The two join Sunny Oh (2002-03), Da Sol Chung (2005-06) and Therese Koelbaek (2007-08).
Wang entered this weekend's championship ranked eighth in the conference in scoring average, coming in at 75.65 strokes per round. The Taipai, Taiwan native turned in five top-20 finishes this season including a string of three straight this spring. Wang is ranked No. 141 by GolfWeek/Sagarin rankings and No. 184 by GolfStat.
Finkelstein checked in ninth in the MW in scoring, standing just .05 strokes behind Wang. The Chandler, Arizona native has four top-20 finishes this year, including a third-place finish at the UNLV Spring Invitational in February that helped her earn MW Golfer of the Month honors. Finkelstein is currently ranked No. 142 in the GolfWeek and No. 162 in GolfStat.
All three previous UNLV Freshman of the Year honorees went on to earn Mountain West Golfer of the Year honors before their careers at UNLV came to a close with Oh winning in 2003-04, Chung in 2005-06 and Koelbaek in 2010-11.
The 2011-12 Mountain West Women's Golf All-Conference Team as well as Golfer of the Year and Coach of the Year will be announced at the conclusion of the tournament championshpi on Sunday, April 22.
