Student-Athlete of the Week
April 22, 2013
You were the team's most consistent golfer during the fall and have had a solid spring, as well. What are your goals to finish out this season?
My goal this season is to finish every round and believe that I reached my full potential at the end. I don't want to look back and say I didn't try my hardest. I know I am capable of great things and I have a wonderful team and coach who support me.
What is your favorite golf course you have played on? Which course would you like to play someday?
I love different aspects on every course we play, but I would have to say I enjoy playing Entrada at Snow Canyon in St. George, Utah the best because it pushes me to trust every shot. It can play really tough but if you have confidence, it can play in your honor. I would love to play Pebble Beach someday. The feeling of walking on the same grass as some of the greatest known golfers would be so thrilling and honoring.
How are Coach Stender and Coach Readdy helping you develop your game?
Coach Stender pushes me to my fullest potential and helps keep my confidence up. It always seems that she has an answer to everything and I love that about her. She helps me both on and off the course. I go to her with all my problems and even just days I need to talk. I couldn't have asked for a better coach; the memories I have made will definitely last a lifetime. Coach Readdy has helped me learn how to maintain a positive attitude with good and bad shots. I have learned through him that there is always something positive you can take from a bad shot. I never knew there were so many mental aspects in golf; I have learned a lot through his strategies.
What did you enjoy most about growing up in Salida, Colo.?
Salida is such an amazing and beautiful little town. I love how I know everyone and the support I receive from the whole town is why I made it as far as I have. Everyone continues to support me and I love the comfort they give me.
What do you like about living in Laramie?
I enjoy living here because Laramie resembles "home" in a way because of the amazing friends I have made and the smaller atmosphere compared to most college towns.
You also played volleyball and basketball up through high school. When did you first start golfing and when did you decide you wanted to devote your attention to it?
My dad and grandpa started teaching me golf when I was three years old. I have always had a natural talent for the game. They always pushed me from day one and made it fun for me and I just knew that golf was the sport for me. I love being athletic so I played volleyball and basketball just to try new things. I did enjoy playing them; I was just not that good.
What do you enjoy doing with any free time you have?
I enjoy hanging out with friends and making the most out of everything. I am pretty laid back and just enjoy having company and friends. During the summer, my mom and I play racquetball every morning which we love to do. We have an amazing time being competitive and making some of the funniest memories together.
Do you have a favorite type of music you listen to before a round? Is there anything you do to mentally prepare for a tournament?
I am a country girl all the way. I love listening to country music 24/7, especially when I warm up before a round. It relaxes me, but at the same time gets me pumped up and ready to play. I have my routines down for tournaments; I just like to have everything organized and ready to go so I do not have to stress about it while I am getting ready to play.
What are your career plans after you earn a degree in communications?
My major has changed since communications, but I would love to work with children through a social work type field. I love helping people out and I have a soft spot for kids. If I can help better their lives in any way, that's what I want. Whether that be working with disabled children, counseling kids, or even working in an adoption/foster care center. Anything related to kids, I'm in!
