Bulldog Pair Qualifies for Summer Competition

FRESNO, Calif. -- Although the 2012-13 season may have concluded, the Fresno State women's golf team is now on the quest to compete in amateur tournaments over the summer - For Bulldogs Madchen Ly and Hannah Sodersten, the treasure came just weeks after their season ended.

The pair qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship, which will be held on June 17-22.

"We are so proud of Madchen and Hannah," head coach Angie Cates Moore said. "Anytime someone qualifies for a USGA event is a big deal. This will be a valuable experience for them and we know they will do a great hob in Oklahoma!"

In the 2012-13 season, Ly ranked fifth among the Mountain West Conference and second among sophomores. Ly recorded a 75.52 stroke average and fired two season-low 70s during the season.

Sodersten was ranked eighth among the conference and second among freshmen during the 2012-13 season. Sodersten recorded a 75.84 stroke average and also carded a season-low 70 during the season.

The first USGA national amateur championship of 2013 will be held on the par-72, 6,214-yard Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club in Norman, Okla.

The USGA accepted 700 entries for the 36th annual championship in which only 156 golfers will compete.
