LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV women's golfer Dana Finkelstein earned medalist honors on Wednesday with a 73 at Whirlwind Golf Club in Phoenix, Ariz., and has qualified for the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championships, which will be held at Neshanic Valley Golf Club in Neshanic Station, N.J., June 18-23.
"I played well today," said Finkelstein. "I hit a lot of fairways and greens and remained patient. I'm looking forward to playing in New Jersey. I have played there as a junior golfer and really enjoyed it. My game feels really good right now and I can't wait to see how I do against the 156 other golfers from around the world."
Wednesday's event in Phoenix was a one-round qualifier and five players out of a total of 24 advanced to the championship in N.J.
"Dana has been playing well all year," said UNLV women's golf head coach Amy Bush. "I am very excited to watch her play at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship. Dana will represent UNLV well in this event."
Finkelstein completed her freshman year with the fourth-best scoring average in the Mountain West. She competed in 29 rounds with an average of 75.21 per round. Her low round during the season was a 70 and her best finish was third at the MW Championship. She was selected as the league's Co-Freshman of the Year along with teammate Mayko Chwen Wang.
