June 21, 2012

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State women's golf head coach Leslie Spalding announced the addition Thursday of Maureen Dunnagan (Lexington, S.C.) to the team's 2012-13 roster. Dunnagan transfers to SDSU after competing for two seasons at NC State and will have two years of eligibility remaining.

"Maureen is extremely mature and understands the process of being a great teammate," Spalding said. "She is willing to learn and wants to become the best golfer that she can possibly be. She will bring added depth to our squad as we continue to improve."

Dunnagan played in eight tournaments during her two-year stay in Raleigh, finishing in the top 20 three times at the 2010 UNCG Starmount Fall Classic (14th), the 2011 Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup (t-17th) and the 2012 Sir Pizza Cards Challenge (t-19th). She had the team's second-best season stroke average as a sophomore at 75.60 and the third-best as a freshman at 78.90.

"I really like coach Spalding, her attitude toward the game and her ambition in helping the golf program to succeed," Dunnagan said. "Going to San Diego State is also going to be a great opportunity for someone like me, who is from a small town in South Carolina. I'm really excited to be an Aztec."

Dunnagan also exceled in the classroom as she was named to the National Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar team and was tabbed to the Atlantic Coast Conference's academic honor roll as a freshman. She made the NC State Dean's List every semester and was a member of the Wolfpack's student-athlete advisory committee.

A 2010 graduate of Lexington High School, Dunnagan played for her prep golf team beginning in the seventh grade and led the Wildcats to six consecutive South Carolina state championships. Her senior campaign she claimed the individual state title by three strokes with a two-day total of 149. Dunnagan also represented South Carolina in several match-play events, including the 2010 Can-Am, and won the Carolinas Junior Girls championship in 2009.

She will enroll at San Diego State this coming fall and intends to major in sociology.
