Rebels To Play In Albuquerque This Week

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women's golf team will compete in its second tournament of the season on Monday-Tuesday, Sept. 17-18, at the 33rd Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, which will be hosted by New Mexico and played at the UNM Championship Course (par 73, 6,192 yards) in Albuquerque, N.M.

The 54-hole stroke-play tournament will consist of 36 holes (two rounds) on Monday and 18 on Tuesday.

Competing for the Rebels will be sophomore Mayko Chwen Wang, sophomore Marguerite Swearingen, sophomore Dana Finkelstein, junior Charlotte Brooks and junior Demi Mak. Freshman Anna-Lena Kramer will compete as an individual.

The 17-team field includes Baylor, BYU, Colorado, Colorado State, Indiana, Iowa, Iowa State, New Mexico, Northwestern, Ohio State, Pepperdine, San Diego State, TCU, UC Davis, UNLV, UTEP and Wyoming.

Baylor is the defending team champion, winning the 2011 event by four shots at 11-over 887. The Rebels finished 16th last year. New Mexico's Sofia Hoglund earned medalist honors by one shot at 3-under 216. UNLV's top finisher was Chwen Wang in a tie for 26th.

UNLV finished third in its first tournament of the season last Tuesday at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo.
