Mountain West Announces Women's Golfer of the Month

Sept. 27, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - New Mexico's Manon De Roey has been selected Mountain West Women's Golfer of the Month for September. The junior placed in the top 10 of each of the Lobos' two tournament appearances this month, including an individual title in UNM's season opener.

De Roey paced the field of 90 golfers at the Colonel Bill Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic from September 10-11 in Fort Collins, Colo. The native of Schilde, Belgium, received medalist honors for the first time in her career after carding a school-record 9-under-par 207 (69-68-70) on the par 72, 6,302-yard course at Ptarmigan Country Club. De Roey's 54-hole total of 207 is the lowest in Lobo history, eclipsing the previous record of 208, which was established by former All-American Jodi Ewart at the 2009 Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational. De Roey finished at 9-under, which is the third-lowest score by a UNM golfer in program history in relation to par. She posted the three lowest rounds of her career and 14 birdies in the tournament to secure the title by four shots. As a team, New Mexico tied for fifth among the field of 17 squads with a combined score of 32-over 896 (298-288-310).

De Roey collected her second top 10 finish of the month at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, Sept. 17-18. The junior registered a 54-hole total of 1-over 220 (75-72-73) to tie for ninth among the field of 93 competing on the par 73, 6,192-yard UNM Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M. New Mexico finished the three rounds in 10th position with a final score of 33-over 909 (309-296-304).

In six rounds played this fall, De Roey has recorded four rounds under par. The junior leads the Mountain West in stroke average at 71.17, and her 68 tallied in the second round of the Colonel Bill Wollenberg Ptarmigan Ram Classic ties as the low round in the league this year. This marks the first career MW Golfer of the Month award for De Roey.
