Rebels Ready To Wrap Autumn Schedule at Texas

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV women’s golf team returns to action this weekend for its fifth tournament of the season, Sunday-Tuesday, Oct. 28-30, at the 39th Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational. The tournament will be hosted by Texas and played at The University of Texas Golf Club in Austin, Texas.

The Rebels will play one round each day in the 54-hole stroke-play event. Tee times will begin on Sunday and Monday at 6:15 a.m. PT, while Tuesday will be a shotgun start at 6:45 a.m. CT.

Competing for the Rebels will be sophomores Dana Finkelstein, Marguerite Swearingen, Mayko Chwen Wang, freshman Anna-Lena Kraemer and junior Demi Mak.

The Rebels will be part of a 15-team field that includes Alabama, Arizona State, Arkansas, Auburn, Denver, Florida, Illinois, Kent State, New Mexico, Pepperdine, TCU, Texas, Tulsa and UCLA.

Including UNLV, there will be nine top 40 teams from the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance index. UNLV is ranked No. 40 while Florida is No. 6, Arizona State is No. 10, Arkansas is No. 22, Pepperdine is No. 26, Auburn in No. 27, Denver is No. 31, Texas is No. 34 and UCLA is No. 38.

Texas is the defending team champion of the Invitational, having won the 2011 event by posting a 16-over- par 880. The Longhorns were paced by Nicole Vanderamade, as she claimed medalist honors, posting a 2-under 214.

UNLV has had three top-five finishes this season. The Rebels opened the year finishing third at the Colonel Bill Wollenberg’s Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. They tied for second at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. and most recently the Rebels finished third in their own Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown. Finkelstein has paced the team, averaging a score of 74.42 over the four tournaments and has recorded one top-five finish (fifth in Las Vegas).
