'Dogs fall 3-1 to Washington Sunday Afternoon

SEATTLE, Wash.--- The Fresno State soccer team fell 3-1 to Washington Sunday afternoon in the Husky/Nike Invitational in Seattle, Wash. on the Husky Soccer Field.

The 'Dogs had early chances in the first half with two corner kicks by Nadia Pearl in the first minute of action, but neither set piece resulted in a goal.

Washington jumped on the board first in the 21st minute with a one on one goal by Husky junior Lindsay Elston. Despite several more chances for Fresno State in the first half, the score remained 1-0 at halftime.

The 'Dogs tied the score at 1-1 in the 68th minute off of the foot of senior Callie Hancock who put to ball past a diving Husky keeper for her third goal of the season.

Washington quickly regained the lead less than five minutes after the 'Dogs scored. Hillary Zevenbergen headed the ball into the net with the assist going to Elston. The lead extended to 3-1 one minute later when an own goal was scored.

Sophomore Katie DeVault finished the day with a total of three saves.

The Bulldogs will return home to Bulldog Stadium on Friday, Sept. 7 against UC Riverside at 7 p.m.
