FRESNO, Calif. ---The Fresno State soccer team dropped a hard fought match to No. 7/13 San Diego State 3-1 in Bulldog Stadium. The 'Dogs have three conference games remaining before entering the Mountain West tournament.

"San Diego State is a very good team and they have been playing really well," said head coach Brian Zwaschka. "I was really pleased with how we kept battling and kept creating chances. The final scoreline could have been a little different but the ball didn't go in the net. We feel pleased with the overall performance."

The 'Dogs jumped on the board first when junior defender Kayla Kret played a beautiful ball over the defense to Callie Hancock who beat three defenders to put the ball in the back of the net from the left side in the eighth minute.

The 'Dogs were able to hold the nationally ranked Aztecs scoreless in the first half, with goalkeeper Katie DeVault recording four saves in the opening 45 minutes.

The Aztecs came out swinging in the second half on the foot of Megan Jurado. Jurado recorded her 11th and 12th goals of the season, as well as an assist to lead the Aztecs to a 3-1 win.

The Bulldogs hit the road for a two-game Mountain West trip as they face Boise State on Friday Oct. 19, and Nevada on Sunday Oct. 21. The 'Dogs will be back in Bulldog Stadium for the last regular season match against UNLV on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 6 p.m. Fresno State will honor its two seniors in their last home game.

" This next weekend we know we have to take it one game at a time and earn results in preparation for the Mountain West tournament," said Zwaschka.
