No. 4 UNLV Defeats No. 5 Fresno State in MW Quarterfinals

Oct. 31, 2012

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Fourth-seeded UNLV shut out No. 5 seed Fresno State, 3-0, Wednesday night in the quarterfinal round of the 2012 Mountain West Women's Soccer Championship at SDSU Sports Deck. The Rebels move on to Friday's semifinal where top-seeded San Diego State awaits.

UNLV's Jenn Wolfe scored the game-winner in the 26th minute. Erica Meier fired a cross from the right side of the pitch and Wolfe corralled the pass at the top left corner of the box. The forward then turned and fired, and the shot went into the upper left corner of the net for the first half's only goal. It was Wolfe's 12th goal of 2012.

In the second half, UNLV (12-3-4) continued to control the pace of play and in the 59th minute earned a corner kick. Julie Owens went to the far corner to attempt the kick and her ball was perfectly placed at the right post where Denali Murnan cashed in on the opportunity. The Rebels' insurance goal was Murnan's fourth of the year.

As time ticked off the clock, UNLV cleared the ball and Susie Bernal beat Bulldog goalkeeper Katie DeVault to the loose ball. Bernal then looped the ball over DeVault and connected on her fourth goal of the year with five seconds left in the game to provide the final margin.

At the final horn, UNLV outshot Fresno State (4-11-5), 14-4, and held a 5-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The Rebels advance to the MW semifinals to face No. 1 seed San Diego State. The Friday night match is set for a 7 p.m. PT start at SDSU Sports Deck.
