Nov. 2, 2012

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - No. 2 seed New Mexico downed sixth-seeded Nevada, 1-0, in the semifinal round of the 2012 Mountain West Women's Soccer Championship Friday afternoon at SDSU Sports Deck. With the win, the Lobos advance to Sunday's title game where they will meet the winner of No. 4 UNLV-No. 1 San Diego State.

Both squads played a scoreless first half and competed for more than 56 minutes without a goal being scored. Things changed in the 57th minute when New Mexico (11-6-2) earned a corner kick. Rachel Montoya took the kick and sent it into the box. The service found Brianna Webster and the midfielder headed the ball in from her position in front of the net.

The Lobos kept the Wolf Pack (7-10-3) at arm's length the rest of the way as they secured their spot in the final for the third consecutive season.

New Mexico finished the game with a 12-9 advantage in shots, but completed the 90 minutes with an 8-1 edge in shots on goal. The Lobos also won the corner-kick battle, 4-3.

UNM moves on to Sunday's championship game, which is set for 1 p.m. PT at SDSU Sports Deck.
