TCU Soccer Announces 2012 Signing Class

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU women’s soccer head coach Eric Bell announced the signing of 10 student-athletes to the program Thursday.
The Horned Frogs have added five players from the Lone Star State, while also welcoming players from California, Colorado, Connecticut and Tennessee. The signees from Texas include Bobbi Clemer (Decatur), Makenzie Koch (Mansfield), Maddy Hamm (Fort Worth), Caroline Patel (Colleyville) and Lindsy Schafer (Denton).
Hamm, a midfielder from Paschal High School in Fort Worth, was the third-leading scorer for all 5A schools in the Metroplex with 24 goals and was named the 5-5A District’s MVP Newcomer of the Year as a freshman. Hamm returned as a sophomore to tally 19 goals and 15 assists to earn all-area first-team honors as well as all-district MVP distinction. As a junior in 2011, she rattled off 28 goals to earn MVP Attacker recognition for the Panthers. Hamm was also a member of the Fort Worth Futbol Club ’94 that garnered a state title in 2009.
Shafer comes to TCU from Guyer High School in Denton, Texas. Shafer totaled 91 goals and 47 assists for the Wild Cats from her freshman to junior season. She was named “Newcomer of the Year” by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram as a freshman after tallying 42 goals in 2009. The striker claimed District Offensive MVP accolades in 2009 and 2010, as well as second-team all-state recognition as a sophomore. Schafer played her club soccer with Fort Worth FC and Solar Red ’94. She also played two summers for the Fort Worth Panthers in the Women’s Premier Soccer League.
Koch shared her high school career at Nolan Catholic High School before transferring to Mansfield Legacy. The center midfielder as been associated with the Dallas Texans since 2007 and should be able to make an immediate impact for TCU.
Clemmer can play on the wing and chose TCU over Georgetown and Texas. She was a multi-sport athlete for Decatur High, as she played basketball while also ran cross country and track. Clemmer enjoyed he club soccer with the Fort Worth Panthers alongside fellow signee Lindsy Shafer.
Patel comes to TCU from Colleyille Heritage High School and played her club soccer for D'Feeters Soccer Club in Farmer's Branch, Texas. She was named to the 2011 Dallas Morning News 6-5A All-District squad and also ran track for the Panthers.
Carly Bowen made her decision to play for Bell and the Frogs from Franklin Road Academy in Franklin, Tenn. She tallied 60 goals and 47 assists in her high school career, collecting all-district honors her final three seasons. Bowen was named the 2A State Offensive Player of the Year as a junior after collecting Defensive Player of the Year accolades as a sophomore. She split her club soccer duties between the Tennessee ODP team and Brentwood Soccer Club.
Sarah Schweiss has been an all-state selection every year leading up to her senior season at Air Academy High School in USAFA, Colo., including first team selections as a junior and freshman. She was named the Kadets’ team MVP as a sophomore and team captain in her junior campaign. Schweiss has also collected numerous tournament championships as a member of the Pride Predators ’93 squad, including State Cup titles in 2006, 2007 and 2011. She was a member of the ODP team that won the 2010 national crown and was inducted into the Colorado Youth Soccer Hall of Fame.
Serena Smith-Banas is the lone recruit from the Golden State, signing with TCU after playing four seasons at Saugus High School in Saugus, Calif. Smith-Banas was named Rookie of the Year as a freshman and followed up with Defensive MVP honors as a sophomore. She garnered Signal Newspaper Foothill League and Los Angeles Daily News first-team honors last season. Smith-Banas played her club soccer for Real So Cal in Agoura, Calif., helping the squad to win the Manchester United Premier Cup and Gothia Cup titles in 2009.
Kasey O’Brien is a goalkeeper that comes to TCU from Wilton High School in Wilton, Conn. She has played goalkeeper for the Warriors all four years, helping to guide the program to a state title in 2008. The Wilton Villager named her the High School Athlete of the Week in October. O’Brien also suited up in goal for SoccerPlus CT and South Central Premier on the club soccer circuit.
Rebekah Foreman hasn’t missed a high school game in her career at Capistrano Valley High School in Mission Viejo, Calif. She earned Sea View League first-team honors as a junior last season, after claiming second-team distinction as a sophomore. Foreman was named the Cougars’ Most Valuable Player in each of the last season and was considered the team’s defensive MVP as a sophomore. As a member of the Laguna Hills Eclipse, Foreman helped claim the USYS Region IV championship and the Coast Soccer League Premier title in 2009.
