Women's Soccer Set For Exhibition Contest At LBSU

Aug. 9, 2012

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State women's soccer team is set for its lone preseason contest when they visit No. 18 Long Beach State on Friday, Aug. 10. The two sides will take the pitch at 7 p.m. PT.

The Aztecs, who were picked to finish second in the Mountain West, return 20 letterwinners and 10 starters off a 2011 squad that finished 10-7-3 overall and allowed just two goals in Mountain West play en route to a 4-1-1 record.

Six of SDSU's returning starters were 2011 all-MW performers, highlighted by redshirt senior Tiffany Hurst (defender/midfielder) and senior Megan Jurado (forward/midfielder). Other 2011 all-conference selections include a trio of juniors in Sophie Metz (midfielder/defender), Haley Palmer (defender) and Kory Spotts (defender/midfielder). Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Boaz rounds out the all-MW honorees from 2011.

LBSU, meanwhile, is coming off a successful season in which the team finished with an overall record of 18-6-1 en route to defending their Big West Conference Tournament title and advancing to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

After the exhibition contest with the 49ers, SDSU will head back home to open its season against SMU on Friday, Aug. 17. The non-conference tilt is scheduled for a 7 p.m. PT start at the SDSU Sports Deck.
