Mountain West Names Women's Soccer Players of the Week
Aug. 20, 2012
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Air Force junior midfielder Leah Bratt and San Diego State sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Boaz have been selected Mountain West Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. This is the third career weekly award for Boaz and first for Bratt.
Bratt scored a pair of goals over the weekend as Air Force opened the 2012 campaign with shutout victories over Lamar and Montana. The Brewerton, N.Y., native tallied the Falcons' second goal of Friday's 3-0 win against the Cardinals, converting her lone shot attempt on a pass from Sarah Falvey at the 43:05 mark. On Sunday, Bratt scored the game-winning goal on a free kick for the lone score in a 1-0 triumph over the Grizzlies. Working from the top of the box, she took the ball from Megan Dozier and curled it around Montana's wall to the lower-right post in the 80th minute. The junior midfielder finished the weekend with four points overall.
Hailing from Murrieta, Calif., Boaz helped San Diego State to a pair of season-opening shutout victories against SMU and Arizona State over the weekend. The sophomore played all 194 minutes in goal, beginning with Friday's double-overtime win against the Mustangs. Boaz made two saves before the Aztecs secured the 1-0 victory with a score at the 104:18 mark. On Sunday, she stopped four shot attempts in a 2-0 blanking of the Sun Devils.
