Aug. 20, 2012

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State goalkeeper Rachel Boaz has been named the Mountain West Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon. This marks the first time the redshirt sophomore has received the award and the first time an Aztec has been honored this season.

The Murrieta, Calif., native helped San Diego State start off its 2012 campaign with a pair of shutout victories against SMU and Arizona State at the SDSU Sports Deck.

Boaz played all 194 minutes in goal, beginning with Friday's double-overtime win over SMU. Boaz tallied two saves before the Aztecs secured the 1-0 victory with a goal at the 104:18 mark. On Sunday, meanwhile, she notched four saves in a 2-0 blanking of ASU.

The Aztecs return to action on Wednesday when they face St. Francis (PA) at the SDSU Sports Deck.
