Locker, Johnson Named Mountain West Players of the Week
Aug. 27, 2012
SAN DIEGO - San Diego State sophomore forward Haley Locker and junior midfielder Carli Johnson have been named Mountain West Women's Soccer Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. This marks the second time Locker has received the award and the first time Johnson has been honored.
Both Locker and Johnson were instrumental in SDSU starting off its 2012 campaign with an undefeated record after victories against Saint Francis and Seattle U at the SDSU Sports Deck. The Aztecs are off to a 4-0 start for the first time in 16 seasons and just the second occasion overall in program history.
Locker, who was also named MW Player of the Week by CollegeSportsMadness.com earlier today, scored two of SDSU's three goals last week. The Ferndale, Wash., native scored the game-winner against Saint Francis at the 78:38 mark to give the Aztecs a 1-0 victory. She then tallied her team-leading third goal of the year at the 1:01 mark vs. Seattle U en route to SDSU earning a 2-0 win. The two goals were Locker's only shots in each contest.
Johnson, meanwhile, guided the Aztecs to a pair of shutout victories against Saint Francis and Seattle U. The Santa Rosa, Calif., native played all 180 minutes last week, leading the defense by holding the Red Flash to four shots and the Redhawks to five. Johnson is one of just two Aztecs to have played all 374 minutes this season, with the other being goalkeeper Rachel Boaz, as the duo has helped the SDSU defense pitch four consecutive shutouts.
The Aztecs continue home action this coming weekend as they play host to No. 8 Pepperdine on Friday at the SDSU Sports Deck.
