SDSU Women's Soccer Ranked In Two National Polls

The San Diego State women's soccer team, which is coming off a dominating win over then-No. 5 Pepperdine, has moved up to No. 20 in the most recent National Soccer Coaches Association of America poll. The Aztecs have also entered the Soccer America Rankings at No. 21. SDSU is the lone team from the Mountain West in both polls.

This past weekend, the Aztecs notched their fifth straight shutout win on Friday as it upset the Waves, 1-0, in a contest held at the SDSU Sports Deck. The last time San Diego State had five consecutive shutout victories was in Mountain West play during the 2004 season.

SDSU's big win resulted in an Aztec receiving MW Player of the Week accolades for the third week in a row. Senior defender/midfielder Tiffany Hurst was named the MW Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. The Santa Rosa, Calif., native played all 90 minutes on Friday and her stellar defensive play helped limit the Waves to just three shots, including one on goal.

San Diego State (5-0) returns to action on Friday when it opens play in the Minnesota Gold Classic. The Aztecs will play Minnesota on Friday, Sept. 7 and then face off with Iowa State on Sunday, Sept. 9. Both contests will be held at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
