LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - Thanks to a third straight shutout, UNLV goalkeeper Kylie Wassell was named the Mountain West Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday. Wassell is the first Rebel this season to earn weekly honors from the MW, and its the third such honor in her career. She shares this week's award with Fresno State goalkeeper Katie DeVault.
Wassell, a 5-8 junior and Las Vegas native, recorded saves on seven of 10 Air Force shots to help the Rebels claim a 1-0 road victory on Oct. 5, handing the Falcons their first home loss of the season. Her shutout streak was also extended to 301:23 minutes, while she now has six shutouts this season, 15 in her career. The win extended UNLV's school record unbeaten streak to nine games, and gave the Rebels a ninth win, surpassing last year's total win mark.
UNLV will return to action on Friday with a 7 pm contest against San Diego State at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
