Mountain West Announces 2012 MW Women's Soccer Championship Bracket

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Regular-season champion San Diego State (17-1-1, 7-0-0) enters the 2012 Mountain West Women's Soccer Championship as the No. 1 seed for the second time in the league's 14-year history. The Aztecs earned the top seed after finishing regular-season play with an unblemished 7-0 record vs. MW opponents.
New Mexico (10-6-2, 4-2-1) and Boise State (9-8-2, 4-2-1) tied for second in the standings, with the Lobos winning the tiebreaker to earn the No. 2 seed. UNLV (11-3-4, 3-1-3) finished fourth to capture the No. 4 seed. Fresno State (4-10-5, 2-3-2) and Nevada (6-9-3, 2-3-2) tied for sixth place in the standings, with the Bulldogs winning the tiebreaker to claim the No. 5 seed.
The MW Women's Soccer Championship will be held in San Diego, Calif., at the SDSU Sports Deck, October 31-November 4. Quarterfinal action takes place Wednesday, October 31, followed by the semifinals on Friday, November 2. The championship game is slated for Sunday, November 4, and will be televised live on CBS Sports Network beginning at 1 p.m. PT.
Wednesday's opening match will pit No. 3 seed Boise State vs. No. 6 seed Nevada at 4 p.m. PT, followed by No. 4 seed UNLV vs. No. 5 seed Fresno State at 7 p.m. PT. Top-seeded San Diego State and No. 2 seed New Mexico each earned a bye into Friday's semifinal round. The Lobos will play the winner of the Boise State-Nevada contest at 4 p.m. PT, while the Aztecs will face the winner of the UNLV-Fresno State contest at 7 p.m. PT.
The winner of Sunday's championship match will earn the Mountain West's automatic bid to the 2012 NCAA Women's Soccer Championship.
