Mountain West Women's Soccer Postseason Release No. 1

Nov. 8, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Second-seeded and fourth-ranked San Diego State takes a 12-match win streak into Saturday's NCAA tournament meeting with Cal State Northridge. The Aztecs are 19-1-1 overall, boasting the nation's best win percentage at .929.

  • SDSU's No. 2 seed in the NCAA bracket is the highest ever for a Mountain West squad, surpassing No. 4 seeds received by former members BYU and Utah in the 2005 and 2006 NCAA tournaments, respectively.
  • San Diego State is making its fourth appearance in the NCAA tournament (1998, 1999, 2009), with a 2-3 record all-time in the postseason. In 1998, SDSU defeated USC in overtime, 1-0, before losing at Portland, 5-0. The following season, the Aztecs were ousted at San Diego, 2-1, in the first round. In 2009, SDSU earned a 1-0 victory over San Diego before losing at No. 3 UCLA.
  • San Diego State has played against five teams that advanced to this season's NCAA tournament. In those contests, SDSU posted a record of 3-1-1 with its wins coming at nationally-ranked Portland, vs. then-No.5 Pepperdine and Arizona State. The tie occurred at Santa Clara, while the lone loss was at the hands of current top-ranked Stanford in a neutral-site contest.
  • The Aztecs captured their second Mountain West tournament championship after defeating UNLV in the semifinals and New Mexico in the title match to earn the league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. SDSU also won the regular-season crown after going undefeated in league play with an unblemished record of 7-0.
  • SDSU is now 19-1-1, which marks the best win percentage (.929) in the NCAA this season. The 19 wins also tie for the most in program history, matching the 1998 squad.
  • The Aztecs have won 12 straight and carry a 13-match unbeaten streak overall into Saturday's meeting with Cal State Northridge.
  • SDSU boasts a perfect 12-0-0 record at home this season, tallying 10 shutouts and allowing just three goals in matches played at the SDSU Sports Deck.
  • Senior forward Megan Jurado heads up the SDSU offense with 37 points. Her 14 goals and 37 points each rank as second-most in school history for a single season. Jurado has seven game-winning goals in 2012, tying for fourth-most nationally.
  • San Diego State has registered 12 shutouts this season, including four straight. The Aztec defense has allowed just 11 goals overall in 2012, with just one coming in the second half or in overtime.
  • Sophomore goalkeeper Rachel Boaz has a goals-against average of 0.49, which ranks sixth in the nation. Boaz has tallied 10 shutouts in 2012, tying the MW single-season sophomore class record shared by three other individuals (New Mexico's Kristen Winters in 2002; UNLV's Alicia Lugo in 2007 and New Mexico's Kelli Cornell in 2010).
