Pack Slugs Its Way to Another Win in St. George

ST GEORGE, Utah – As they did on day one of the tournament, the University of Nevada softball team brought its bats on day two of the Red Desert Classic, scoring 13 runs on 13 hits to top the Weber State Wildcats 13-7.
The Pack moved to 2-1 with the win, while Weber State fell to 0-3.
Karley Hopkins and Megan Sweet each had three hits in four trips to the plate. Hopkins raised her average to .769 in the first three games, getting 10 hits in her first 13 at bats. Sweet tripled for the first time in her young career and drove in two runs.
Megan Fincher homered for the second time in as many days, going 2-4 and driving in three runs.
Nevada has scored 31 runs and belted 38 hits in its first three games of the season. 14 of Nevada’s hits have gone for extra bases, including 10 doubles, one triple and three home runs.
The Pack was trailing Weber State 7-5 after 5, scoring four times in the sixth and seventh innings to earn the comeback victory.
Karlyn Jones pitched the final 2.2 innings in relief to earn her first win of the season. She struck out three Wildcat hitters without allowing a baserunner after entering the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Nevada will play twice on Sunday to close out the event, meeting Utah Valley University at 10 a.m. in its first tilt.
