Final Stats

ST. GEORGE, Utah. – The Colorado State softball team closed play at the Red Desert Classic on Saturday afternoon, committing five defensive errors leading to four Oklahoma State unearned runs in the 4-1 loss.

The Cowboys (2-1) took a 1-0 lead in the second inning when senior Stephanie Brewer scored on an error in left field by CSU’s Kendal Butterfield.

The Rams (2-3) remained in striking distance as sophomore pitcher Molly Randle fanned five batters in the next three innings, including striking out the side in the third inning.

Junior second baseman Cassy Mosser tied the contest, 1-1, in the sixth inning, reaching base on a one-out single through the left side, and scoring one batter later when Shae Rodriguez belted an RBI triple to right field.

But that was all the offense the Rams would muster in the contest, as Rodriguez was thrown from center field, on an Alysa Greckel flyout, to end the inning.

The Rams then committed three errors in the sixth inning, two by Randle and one at third base by Chelsea Biglow, to seal their fate.

The Rams return to the diamond next weekend, traveling to Las Cruces, N.M., for five games at the Troy Cox Classic.  The Rams open play with matchups against Penn State and Texas Tech on Day 1. Saturday the Rams will draw host New Mexico State and UMKC, before closing the tourney on Sunday with a second game against NMSU.
