Rebels Lose To Rainbow Wahine Sunday

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels (4-5) suffered a 12-2, five-inning loss to the Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine (12-0) Sunday afternoon in the final game of the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic. Hawai'i staked itself to an early 5-0 lead and never looked back en route to the victory.
The Rainbow Wahine got on the scoreboard early with help from a three-run home run by Sarah Robinson in the first off Caitlin Klepper (0-1). They got two more scores off Klepper in the second on RBI singles from Kelly Majam and Robinson.
Robinson, who went 3-for-3 at the plate, was responsible for eight of UH's runs on the day with six coming as RBI and two more as runs.
UH's Kaia Parnaby (5-0) picked up the win in five innings of work. Parnaby was touched for two runs on five hits. She struck out two against one walk.
Klepper was saddled with the loss in 1.1 innings. She allowed five runs on five hits, and fanned one batter.
Amber Petersen relieved Klepper in the second and lasted two frames. Petersen gave up seven runs on nine hits, and walked one.
Amanda Oliveto closed out the final 1.2 innings in relief for UNLV. She struck out three, and allowed one walk and one hit.
UNLV returns to action Thursday, Feb. 24 (noon) in Santa Barbara, Calif., against Nevada, Reno and San Diego at UC Santa Barbara's Gaucho Classic I. The Rebels will also play UCSB, Houston and San Diego, once again, in the three-day event.
