April 5, 2013
COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- The Colorado Softball team's six game streak came to a halt on Friday evening, as the Rams dropped the first game of a three game series to No. 9 Texas A&M, falling by a 10-0 final in five innings.
The Aggie offense started early in the bottom of the first inning with five runs, added one run in the third, and completed their 10-0 shutout with four more runs in the bottom of the fourth.
At the top of the fourth inning, Ortega recorded the first hit of the game for the Rams with a double to right field. Rodriguez followed with a single to first, and then stole second base. But with runners in scoring position, Rams were unable to produce any more hits for the inning as junior Emily Pohl grounded out for the last out.
Biglow tried once more for a chance to plate a run in the top of the fifth with a single up middle. A rally was in sight when junior Cassy Mosser walked, but the Aggies held strong and recorded the last out from a fly out to right field by Ortega, leaving the game at 10-0.
Sophomore pitcher Molly Randle (0-2) took the loss, giving up six hits, eight runs (all earned), and five walks over 3.1 innings. Freshman Holly Reinke relieved Randle in the bottom of the fourth. Reinke pitched 0.2 of an inning, allowing two runs, one hit, one walk, while striking out one.
With the loss, the Rams' record rolls moves to a 17-15 overall. Game 2 of the series between the Rams and the Aggies is set to begin at 3 p.m. MT.
