Pack Falls in Game One

RENO, Nev. -- The University of Nevada softball team had its five-game winning streak snapped on Friday, falling 13-2 to UNLV at Hixson Park.
The Wolf Pack fell to 28-20 (7-6 MW) with the loss, while the Rebels improved to 19-25 (5-5 MW) with the win.
UNLV jumped out early, scoring three runs in the first inning. In the fifth, the Pack got two back on two hits and a Rebel error. Jasmine Jenkins led off the inning with 12th double of the season and later scored when Hannah Harger reached base on an error. Caylin Campbell continued to come through in pinch-hit situations, as the junior singled to drive in Nevada's second run. She now has nine RBI in 43 at bats in 2013.
Five late runs from UNLV put the game out of reach. Nevada will need to repeat its weekend success from the Colorado State series to take the three Governor's Series presented by NV Energy points up for grabs this weekend. Against the Rams, the Pack fell in game one at Hixson, before winning the last two to take the series.
Karley Hopkins had two hits to raise her season average to .381.Erin Jones doubled to put her within one of the single-season record at Nevada. She now has 17 in 45 games. The all-time record was set by three players, with the last being Noelle Micka in 2008.
Megan Dortch took the loss to fall to 10-10, while Amanda Oliveto won to improve to 16-13. Saturday's first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. as the Pack will look to rebound in the middle game of the three-game series.
