FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno State softball team begins preparation for a new season in a new conference under new head coach Trisha Ford. Ford and the Bulldogs kicked off the 2013 season with the first day of practice on Sunday.

The `Dogs open the season on Feb. 8 hosting the first of two non-conference tournaments and start their first season in the Mountain West Conference in April.

"We are excited to be back on the diamond and are eager to get the 2013 season started," said Ford. "We have a lot of talent back with us this season and mixed with the newcomers it should be a lot of fun to watch."

The Bulldogs held team meetings over the weekend and began practicing on the field on Sunday. The `Dogs will practice every day leading up to the start of the season, which is less than a month away.

Returning to the Diamond for the Bulldogs in 2013 are the top three offensive threats from a year ago, Brooke Ortiz, Stesha Brazil and Brenna Moss. Junior Vonnie Martin earned preseason honors from College Sports Madness and was named all-conference in 2012.

Stepping into the circle for the first time in a `Dogs uniform are Jillian Compton and Hannah Harris. Both freshmen, were highly decorated student-athletes in high school and earned many awards for their work in the circle.

Fresno State returns a total of 13 from 2012 and added eight new student-athletes to the roster, which included two transfers and six freshmen.
