`Dogs Tabbed to Finish Third

FRESNO, Calif. - The Mountain West announced its 2013 preseason poll as voted on by the league's head coaches on Tuesday afternoon. Fresno State was selected to finish its first season in the MW conference in third place.

San Diego State and Colorado State were selected ahead of the Bulldogs. The Aztecs were picked to finish first with five first place votes.

The `Dogs under the leadership of first year head coach Trisha Ford return 13 letterwinners and six starters from 2012. The Bulldogs also added eight newcomers to the roster, which included six freshmen and two transfers.

The Bulldogs top four offensive threats from a year ago return in 2013. Juniors Brooke Ortiz, Stesha Brazil, Vonnie Martin and sophomore Brenna Moss had the top four batting averages in 2012. Ortiz hit a team-high .312, while Brazil had a .304 average, Martin hit .287 and Moss had a batting average of .283.

Ford and the Bulldogs start the 2013 season with the Fresno State Kickoff Tournament Feb. 8-10 at bulldog Diamond.
