Oliveto Picks Up MW Weekly Award

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Amanda Oliveto has been named the Mountain West's Pitcher of the Week for games played from Feb. 20 through Feb. 26. This is the third career MW weekly accolade for Oliveto.
Oliveto, a 5-9 sophomore from Simi Valley, Calif., went 3-1 in four appearances for UNLV last weekend at UC Santa Barbara's Gaucho Classic I. She registered an ERA of 1.25 and struck out 20 batters while surrendering four earned runs and four walks in 22.1 innings of work. Oliveto began the weekend with a relief appearance in a nine-inning affair against San Diego. She entered the game in the seventh inning with two outs and a runner on, but shut down the Toreros over the final 2.1 frames to earn the 2-1 win. She retired all six batters she faced, which included two via strikeout. She made the start against Nevada, Reno and limited the Wolf Pack to three hits in the 1-0, complete-game victory. She struck out eight hitters, while walking one. Four UNR batters reached base safely, with only one advancing as far as second base. In a 1-0 loss to host UCSB, Oliveto threw 6.0 innings and allowed one run on four hits with three strikeouts. After she gave up a run in the second, only five batters reached base, with only two getting as far as second. In the finale against USD, she threw a complete game and was touched for three runs on six hits en route to the 7-3 victory. She struck out seven against three walks.
For the year, Oliveto owns an overall record of 5-4 in 10 appearances. She has started eight games and completed six of them. She has thrown a total of 54.2 innings and struck out 45 against 17 runs (14 earned), 38 hits and 20 walks.
Oliveto and the Rebels return to action beginning Friday against Seton Hall (3:45 pm) and New Mexico State (6:00 pm) in their own Eller Media Stadium Classic. Illinois and Florida Atlantic are also participating in the three-day tournament held at UNLV's on-campus facility.
