March 5, 2012

SAN DIEGO - San Diego State's Tuesday softball game against Maine that was originally scheduled for 6 p.m. PT has been changed to a 2 p.m. PT start, head coach Kathy Van Wyk announced today. The Black Bears and San Diego (USD) will play in the first game of the day at noon PT.

The Aztecs (12-11) are coming off a 7-1 victory over Long Beach State in the final game of the San Diego Classic I Sunday in Santee, Calif. Sophomores Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) and Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) each homered in the win and senior Ashley Rose (Antioch, Calif.) was 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) gave up just one run over seven innings to improve to 5-4 on the season.

Miles leads SDSU in almost every offensive category, including batting average (.380), games started (23), at-bats (71), runs (23), hits (27), doubles (9), total bases (54), slugging percentage (.761), walks (12), on-base percentage (.464) and sacrifice flies (1, tied), while Klopp leads the squad in home runs (7) and RBIs (19). Senior Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS), the only other San Diego State player besides Miles to play in all 23 games this year, is a perfect 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts.

Arbino (5-4, 1.42 ERA, 69.0 IP) leads the pitching staff in ERA, wins (tied), appearances (14), games started (10), complete games (8), saves (2), shutouts (3) and innings pitched, while senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) is 5-2 with a 2.10 ERA in 53 1/3 innings and leads San Diego State in strikeouts (57) and opponents batting average (.240).

Maine comes into tomorrow with a 4-10 record and four straight losses. Prior to that losing streak, however, the Black Bears swept Long Beach State in Long Beach.

Jean Stevens leads Maine with a .444 average (8-for-18), two home runs and four RBIs (tied). Hilary Kane (.361), Emj Fogel (.353), Kristen Koslosky (.321, .500 OB%) and Dagmar Ralphs (.316, 4 2B, 4 RBI) are also hitting over .300. Ashley Kelley (2-4, 3.12 ERA, 49.1 IP) has seen the most playing time in the circle for the Black Bears.
