March 6, 2013

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Kristin May (Corona, Calif.) was named the Mountain West Player of the Week, the league announced last night. It is the first career MW accolade for the senior and third by an Aztec this season.

May led SDSU to a 2-2 record at the San Diego Classic I over the weekend with three of the four games coming against teams who made last year's NCAA tournament. May was 7-for-12, while leading the team in batting average (.583), hits, RBIs (6), total bases (10, tied), slugging percentage (.833) and on-base percentage (.643). She also owned a perfect fielding percentage, throwing out all three baserunners who tried to steal on her.

May had a hit in all four games, highlighted by a 3-for-3 outing with two doubles, three RBIs and a run in San Diego State's 9-1 run-rule victory over Brigham Young on Thursday in a battle between the last eight regular season MW champions. She was also 2-for-3 with a walk in the Aztecs' 5-4 loss to Long Beach State on Friday, 1-for-3 with three RBIs and a double in SDSU's 4-1 win vs. Utah State on Saturday and 1-for-2 with a walk in a loss to No. 12/10 UCLA on Sunday.

On the season, May is hitting .346 with nine RBIs, five doubles and three runs. She has played in all 19 games, starting 17 at catcher, and has a perfect fielding percentage in 115 chances.

San Diego State (10-9), which has already played six nationally ranked schools over its 19 games this year, travels to the Fresno State Classic this weekend to play Iowa State (11:15 a.m. PT) and No. 9/8 Oregon (1:30 p.m. PT) on Friday, No. 6/6 California (3:45 p.m. PT) and Saint Mary's (6 p.m. PT) on Saturday and No. 23/rv Oregon State (9 a.m. PT) on Sunday.
