SDSU Softball Heads to Fresno State Tournament

SAN DIEGO - The San Diego State softball team heads north to compete in the Bayer CropScience Classic in Fresno, Calif., this weekend.

The Aztecs (13-11) will take on Butler (9 a.m. PT) and Connecticut (11:30 a.m. PT) on Friday, No. 2/1 California (1:15 p.m. PT) on Saturday, and Purdue (8:45 a.m. PT) and No. 18/15 Oregon (10:45 a.m. PT) on Sunday.

SDSU is coming off an 8-0, five-inning victory over Maine Tuesday afternoon at SDSU Softball Stadium. Sophomore Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) went 2-for-3 with a homer, double, three RBIs and two runs in the win, while redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) (4.0 IP, 1 H, 4K) and junior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) (1.0 IP, 2 H) combined on the three-hit shutout.

Sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) continues to lead the San Diego State offense in numerous categories, including batting average (.378), games started (24), at-bats (74), runs (24), hits (28), doubles (10), total bases (56), walks (12) and on-base percentage (.460), while Klopp (.333) has team bests in home runs (8), RBIs (22) and slugging percentage (.810). Junior Kristin May (.343, 2 HR, 7 RBI) and redshirt sophomore Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) (.309, 4 HR, 14 RBI) are also hitting over .300 for the Aztecs.

Arbino leads the pitching staff that together as a 2.13 ERA with a 6-4 record and a 1.34 ERA over 73 innings. Senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) is 5-2 with a 2.10 ERA over 53 1/3 innings with a team-high 57 strikeouts, while Kamerin May is 2-5 with a 3.80 ERA over 35 innings.

California (16-0) highlights the field and is ranked second in the USA Today/NFCA poll and first in the Softball poll, while Oregon (13-3) is ranked 18th and 15th, respectively. Purdue (11-3), Connecticut (1-4) and Butler (4-6) are the other teams SDSU will play.
