Oliveto Hurls Her Way To Weekly Honor

March 13, 2012

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Amanda Oliveto has been named the Mountain West's Pitcher of the Week for games played through March 11. This is the fourth career MW weekly accolade for Oliveto.

Oliveto, a native of Simi Valley, Calif., went 2-2 with five appearances, three of which were starts, for UNLV in the Long Beach State Invitational. She registered an ERA of 1.31 and struck out 16 batters, while surrendering eight runs (five earned) and four walks in 26.2 innings of work. The sophomore righthander was tagged with the loss in two of her first three outings of the tournament against then-#24/23 North Carolina and Pittsburgh, but rebounded with two complete-game wins over Cal State Fullerton and Notre Dame. She pitched one inning of no-hit relief in a 6-1 win over Eastern Kentucky. Against Cal State Fullerton, Oliveto carried a no-hitter until the sixth inning. She faced only two batters over the minimum and allowed just one hit while fanning four against one walk en route to the 3-0 victory. In the tournament finale, she held Notre Dame to three hits and two runs (one earned) through nine frames of action. She sat down 15 straight batters after allowing a first-inning single, the only hit given up until one in the seventh. She struck out six and issued one walk in the 3-2 win.

For the year, Oliveto owns an overall record of 8-7 in 19 appearances. She has started 13 games and completed nine of them. She has thrown a total of 99.2 innings and struck out 72 against 32 runs (26 earned), 66 hits and 27 walks.

Oliveto and the Rebels return to action this Friday in the San Diego Classic II, which is co-hosted by San Diego State University and the University of San Diego. UNLV will face Harvard (11:30 am) and Purdue (2:00 pm) on Friday at the SDSU Softball Stadium.
