OLIVETO HURLS HER WAY TO AWARD: UNLV's Amanda Oliveto has been named the Mountain West's Pitcher of the Week for games played through March 11. This the fourth career MW weekly accolade for Oliveto.

Two weeks ago, she earned her initial honor of the 2012 campaign with her 3-1 effort in games through Feb. 26.

Oliveto, a native of Simi Valley, Calif., went 2-2 with five appearances, three of which were starts, for UNLV in the Long Beach State Invitational. She registered an ERA of 1.31 and struck out 16 batters, while surrendering eight runs (five earned) and four walks in 26.2 innings of work. The sophomore righthander was tagged with the loss in two of her first three outings of the tournament against then-#24/23 North Carolina and Pittsburgh, but rebounded with two complete-game wins over Cal State Fullerton and Notre Dame. She pitched one inning of no-hit relief in a 6-1 win over Eastern Kentucky. Against Cal State Fullerton, Oliveto carried a no-hitter until the sixth inning. She faced only two batters over the minimum and allowed just one hit while fanning four against one walk en route to the 3-0 victory. In the tournament finale, she held Notre Dame to three hits and two runs (one earned) through nine frames of action. She sat down 15 straight batters after allowing a first-inning single, the only hit given up until one in the seventh. She struck out six and issued one walk in the 3-2 win.

THE LAST OUT(ING): The UNLV Rebels went 3-2 last weekend in the Long Beach State Invitational hosted at 49er Softball Complex. UNLV defeated Eastern Kentucky, Cal State Fullerton and Notre Dame, but suffered losses to #24/23 North Carolina and Pittsburgh. Two of the games, Pittsburgh and Cal State Fullerton, went extra innings with the Rebels splitting the pair evenly.

UNLV opened up Friday's action with a 5-0, no-hit loss to UNC before things were turned around in a 6-1 win over EKU. In the EKU win, the Rebels built up a 5-0 lead and never looked back.

On Saturday, the Rebels took a 2-0 lead against Pitt, but watched three unearned runs score to flip the game against them. Against CSUF, UNLV built a 2-0 with two scores in the second and and added a third in the sixth in a game that only took 1:15.

Sunday's finale went nine innings with UNLV getting two runs in the final frame for the 3-2 win. All scoring came from the sixth on with the Rebels getting a run in the sixth, while UND, down to its last out, rallied to tie the game. A two-run homer by Paige Emerson was the difference maker in extras.

UNLV was led offensively by four players that notched at least four hits in the five-game set. Korin Cuico had two multiple-hit games and finished with a .364 batting average (4-for-11). Jaexie Balilea hit .313 and topped all hitters with five hits. Paige Emerson, who also had four hits, led all players with four RBI, while Pauline Monreal scored three runs.

In the circle, the Rebel hurlers combined for a 0.93 ERA in 37.2 innings of work. They went 3-2 with 22 strikeouts against 22 hits, 11 runs (five earned) and seven walks. Amanda Oliveto went 2-2 overall and flirted with a no-hitter against CSUF and a one-hitter vs. UND. Jessica O'Connor went 1-0 with a win over EKU.
