ON DECK: The UNLV Rebels will play a doubleheader in Cedar City, Utah against the Southern Utah Thunderbirds on Wednesday, March 28. The first game is scheduled for 2:00 pm, while the second is tentatively slated for 4:00 pm.
The doubleheader was just added to the schedule this week after three games were canceled at the San Diego Classic II last weekend.
ROAD TRIPPIN': The UNLV Rebels began the 2012 campaign with 14 of their first 19 games played in Las Vegas. With the conclusion of the Eller Media Stadium Classic on March 4, UNLV's schedule was marked with 17 consecutive games on the road although it has been altered by some subtractions and additions.
Ten games should have been played to this point, but three contests were canceled at last week's San Diego Classic II due to rain. UNLV has gone 5-2 overall in the seven games contested, thus far.
The Rebels have five games this weekend at the Mustang Classic and then two Wednesday doubleheaders remaining on the road trip. A two-game set at Fresno State was already on the 2012 schedule for April 4, while a doubleheader at Southern Utah was just added for March 28.
THE LAST OUT(ING): The UNLV Rebels went 2-0 last weekend at the San Diego Classic II co-hosted by San Diego State and the University of San Diego. UNLV defeated Purdue, 6-2, and Harvard, 7-2, on Friday before having its final three games washed out.
Against Purdue, UNLV built up a 3-0 lead before the Boilermakers rallied for two runs in the top of the sixth. The Rebels countered with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning to push the lead to four runs. The Rebels held on to win 6-2.
Against Harvard, UNLV scored five times in the third and once more in the fifth before the Crimson got a two-run homer in the sixth to pull within four at 6-2. The Rebels scored once more for a 7-2 final.
Offensively, UNLV was led by seven players that scattered at least two hits in Friday's action. Paige Emerson led all with three hits, and she tacked on a team-high three runs, as well. Elena Fata, Pauline Monreal and Jaexie Balilea tied for the top spot in RBI with two apiece.
