Aztecs Travel to Pacific's Libby Matson Tournament This Weekend
The San Diego State softball team travels to Stockton, Calif., this weekend for the Libby Matson Tournament. The Aztecs (16-16) will play Princeton (noon PT) and host Pacific (4:30 p.m. PT) on Friday and Saint Mary's (10 a.m. PT and 12:15 p.m. PT) in a doubleheader on Saturday.
The entire tournament will have live video and live stats, which can be viewed at the tournament webpage at http://bit.ly/GGIwP2 (link is shortened, paste into web browser).
SDSU is coming off a rain shortened San Diego Classic II, where it went 0-2 with losses to Harvard (6-3) and Purdue (6-5). San Diego State committed a combined five errors over the two losses, which led to seven unearned runs.
The Aztec offense has homered 30 times in 32 games this season, which is already the second most in program history. The 30 home runs are more than six of SDSU's seven NCAA tournament teams, including the 2001 (12), 2003 (12), 2006 (27), 2008 (14), 2009 (12) and 2010 (25) squads. The only team with more in program history was last year's squad, which hit 42 in 55 games.
Sophomore Hayley Miles continues to lead SDSU in numerous categories, including batting average (.374), games started (32), at-bats (99), runs (32), hits (37), doubles (12), total bases (69), walks (15) and on-base percentage (.452). Classmate Lorena Klopp has missed nine games due to injuries and illness, but still leads the team in home runs (8), RBIs (22, tied with senior Justeen Maeva) and slugging percentage (.810). Senior Felicia Reifschneider has a team-high eight stolen bases.
