Rebels Return Home, Host Four-Team Tournament

LAS VEGAS ( - The UNLV Rebels will play their first games at Eller Media Stadium in nearly three weeks with this weekend's Rebel Classic. The three-day event is the fourth and final tournament that the softball program will host this season. UNLV will welcome Boise State, Texas Tech and Tulsa to town to play a total of eight games. The Rebels will face twice on Friday (4:15 & 6:30 pm) against both Tulsa and Texas Tech before squaring off with Tulsa once more on Saturday (1:30 pm).

Tulsa will play will play a total of five games at the Classic while Texas Tech and Boise State will each play four times. UNLV and BSU will not play each other, as the two teams are scheduled for a three-game, Mountain West series against each other on May 3-5 in Las Vegas.

ON DECK: The UNLV Rebels hit the road for the third time in four weeks, but the destination is not California. UNLV will head to the Rocky Mountain State to play four games outside of the Pacific Time Zone for the first time this season. The Rebels will play a non-conference affair with Northern Colorado in Greeley at 4:00 pm MT (3:00 pm PT) before opening up Mountain West play in Fort Collins against Colorado State. UNLV and CSU kick off conference action Thursday, March 28 through Saturday, March 29. The first two meetings - Thursday and Friday - are scheduled for 4:00 pm MT (3:00 pm PT) first pitches while Saturday's finale is set for 1:00 pm MT (12:00 PT).

LOOKING BACK A WEEK: The UNLV Rebels went 4-1 at the San Diego Classic II in Santee, Calif., last weekend. UNLV won its first two games in shut out fashion over UT Arlington (2-0) and Marist (1-0) to open up tournament play. The Rebels then suffered a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Bryant before they rebounded with an 8-3 walloping of Buffalo. The Scarlet & Gray then ended the three-day affair on a high note thanks to Amanda Oliveto's no-hitter - fourth career - against UMass (5-0).

The Rebel offense was paced by five players that hit above .357 and also scattered four hits on the weekend. Garie Blando led the team in batting average with a .444 effort at the plate after going 4-for-9 with two runs and one RBI. Alyssa Cordova, who had two RBI, was 5-for-12 at the plate, which translates to the team's second best hitting clip (.417). Stefany Valentino topped all players in hits with seven while hitting .412 (7-for-17). Pauline Monreal and Tayler Van Acker round out the quintet with their .385 (5-for-13) and .357 (5-for-14) averages, respectively. Besides having two of the team's better batting averages, Monreal led the squad in runs (four) while Van Acker was first in RBI (six).

In the circle, the pitching staff went 4-1 with a 1.00 ERA in 35.0 innings of work. Amanda Oliveto made four appearances, three of which were starts that resulted in complete games, and threw a total of 22.2 frames. She struck out 16 against five walks. She only allowed the opposition to hit .130 off of 10 hits. Francesca Foti went 1-1 with a 0.75 ERA in 9.1 innings of work. Foti threw one complete game with three strikeouts and six walks. Valentino did not register a record in the circle after throwing 3.0 innings in one start.
