SDSU Softball Welcomes New Mexico This Weekend

The San Diego State softball team begins its quest for a sixth Mountain West title this weekend when it plays host to New Mexico in a three-game series.
The Aztecs (19-12), who are receiving votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll, and the Lobos (16-20) will play at 6 p.m. PT Thursday, 6 p.m. PT Friday and 1 p.m. PT Saturday.
SDSU has won seven consecutive games by a combined margin of 54-15 with four of those victories coming via shutout. San Diego State did not play last weekend.
Nine of the Aztecs' 12 losses this season have come against nationally ranked schools, including four vs. 2012 Women's College World Series teams. Additionally, SDSU has played 16 teams who made last year's NCAA tournament.
Junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) leads San Diego State in batting average (.408), hits (40), doubles (13), home runs (8), RBIs (32), total bases (81) and slugging percentage (.827). Junior Patrice Jackson (Kansas City, Mo.) (.385, 6 HR, 19 RBI), senior Kamerin May (Corona, Calif.) (.360, 2 HR, 19 RBI), sophomore Kayla Jordan (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) (.333, 5 HR, 17 RBI) and junior Katie Mathis (Grass Valley, Calif.) (.317) are also hitting above .300 (min. 50 at-bats).
The 1-2 punch of freshman left-hander Danielle O'Toole (Upland, Calif.) and senior right-hander Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) back a pitching staff that leads the Mountain West with a 2.10 ERA. O'Toole is 8-5 with a 1.86 ERA and 77 strikeouts over 86 2/3 innings, while Arbino is 10-7 with a 1.91 ERA and 104 strikeouts over 113 1/3 innings.
