SDSU's Rebecca Arbino Named MW Pitcher of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State's Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif.) has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, the league announced today. It is the second MW weekly award for the Clovis, Calif., native and fourth of her career.

Arbino went 3-0 with a 0.54 ERA over 13 innings as the Aztecs (22-12, 3-0 MW) swept New Mexico over the weekend. She combined in two SDSU shutouts and struck out 17 against four walks, while limiting the Lobos to a .157 average.

On Thursday, Arbino tossed a complete game against UNM in a 4-1 win, allowing one run on six hits and two walks over seven innings, while striking out seven. On Friday, the right-hander pitched two perfect innings of relief with four strikeouts as San Diego State scored five runs in the sixth in a 5-0 triumph. On Saturday, Arbino threw four scoreless innings of relief, scattering two hits and two walks, while fanning six in a 1-0 Aztec victory.

On the season, Arbino is 13-7 with a 1.77 ERA over 126 1/3 innings. She leads the league with 121 strikeouts, and ranks in a tie for first in wins and saves (1). Additionally, Arbino is second in opponents batting average (.234) and ERA, and is tied for second in innings pitched. Among the national leaders, she ranks 11th in walks allowed per seven innings (1.05), tied for 33rd in wins and tied for 37th in solo shutouts (4).

SDSU, which is receiving votes in the latest ESPN.com/USA Softball poll for the third consecutive week, plays host to San Diego at 6 p.m. PT Wednesday before starting a nine-game road trip with a three-game series at Nevada over the weekend. San Diego State has won 10 straight games.
