2012 UNLV Softball Weekly Notes - Week Nine

LEADING OFF: The UNLV Rebels head to the Golden State for the final time in the 2012 regular season with a trip to Fresno State on Wednesday. The Rebels are scheduled to play a doubleheader against the Bulldogs beginning at 5:00 pm. The second game is tentatively scheduled for 7:00 pm.

The doubleheader is the second of three straight "let's play two" Wednesdays. The stretch started last week in Cedar City against Southern Utah. It will conclude next Wednesday, April 11 against SUU.

ON DECK: The UNLV Rebels return to the friendly confines of Eller Media Stadium for the first time in over five weeks with a pair of games against Southern Utah on Wednesday, April 11. The doubleheader will be the first contests that UNLV has played at home dating back to March 4.

First pitch of the first game is slated for 4:00 pm.

ROAD TRIPPIN': The UNLV Rebels began the 2012 campaign with 14 of their first 19 games played in Las Vegas. With the conclusion of the Eller Media Stadium Classic on March 4, UNLV's schedule was marked with 17 consecutive games on the road although it has since been altered by some subtractions and additions.

Originally, 15 games should have been played to this point, but three contests were canceled at the San Diego Classic II due to rain. UNLV added a doubleheader at Southern Utah last weekend to get two of those games back. The Rebels have gone 8-6 overall in the 14 games contested.

The Rebels have two games left on this month-long road trip. The doubleheader at Fresno State concludes the long stretch of road games.

THE LAST OUT(ING): The UNLV Rebels went 0-2 last week with a pair of losses in a doubleheader at Southern Utah. The home squad won the first game in six innings by eight runs, 9-1, before rallying for a 3-2 victory in the second affair.

UNLV was led by multiple-hit efforts from Paige Emerson and Samantha Henry. Emerson went 4-for-6 (.667) at the plate with a double and an RBI. Henry countered with two hits in three at-bats (.667) with two doubles and two RBI. Katie Uriarte scored twice on the day, while Samantha Juarez touched the plate once.

A SOON-TO-BE FAMILIAR FACE: The Fresno State Bulldogs, who is this week's opponent, will become members of the Mountain West beginning this upcoming 2012-13 academic year.

UNLV and Fresno State are not strangers with each other, as the two have played against each other 52 times dating back to the 1985 season. The Bulldogs own a 43-9 edge in the head-to-head series.

The two programs have been conference foes twice before. They were in the Big West at the same time from 1987-92 and then the WAC from 1987-99.

In conference play, FS leads 20-6 with 19 wins in the Big West era and 11 more during the stint in the WAC.
