Mountain West softball teams get ready to kick off the Conference portion of their schedules this weekend, with UNLV visiting Boise State and San Diego State hosting Colorado State.

Notables:

  • New Mexico has hit 64 home runs as a team this season and leads the nation in home runs per game (1.88). In addition, the Lobos rank second in the NCAA in scoring (7.56) and slugging percentage (.590).

  • New Mexico's Jessica Garcia has driven in a Conference-high 49 runs this season, ranking second nationally with an average of 1.44 per game. The senior catcher is also sixth in the country in home run average (0.41 per game) with 14 dingers through 34 games. Garcia sits five RBI shy of the program record of 54.

  • San Diego State's Hayley Miles has hit a school-record 15 doubles this season, ranking second nationally with 0.41 per game.

  • Two Mountain West players are hitting above .400 through games of April 28. Boise State's Tara Glover leads the league with a .434 clip at the plate, followed by New Mexico's Jessica Garcia (.421).

  • New Mexico's Stefanie Carramusa leads the league and ranks in the top-10 nationally in three offensive categories this season: runs per game (2nd, 1.38); home runs per game (3rd, 0.44); total home runs (6th, 15).

  • At 6-0, Colorado State's Kailey Snyder is the only pitcher on the Rams' staff without a loss.

  • New Mexico's Shenise Cox ranks seventh nationally with 1.21 runs per game.

  • New Mexico has run-ruled eight teams so far in 2012: Northwestern on Feb. 11, 13-5 (5); Bryant on Feb. 17, 15-1 (5); Northern Colorado on Feb. 18, 11-3 (5); No. 16 Texas A&M on Feb. 23, 15-3 (6); North Dakota on March 2, 8-0 (6); CSU Bakersfield on March 2, 8-0 (6) and Weber State on March 23, 13-5 (5) and March 25, 12-1 (6).

  • The UNLV defense has turned a Conference-best 18 double plays this season to rank eighth nationally (0.51 per game). Overall, the Rebels also lead the league with a team fielding percentage of .976.

  • Boise State's Aubray Zell has a league-high 16 wins in 2012, tying the school record set by teammate Allie Crump in 2010. Zell, a senior righthander, has logged a Conference-best 152.0 innings in the circle this season and also leads the league with 145 strikeouts.

  • UNLV racked up a season-high 17 hits in game two of last Wednesday's doubleheader sweep at Fresno State. The 17 hits are the most by the Rebels since the office scattered 20 in a March 20, 2009 win over Dartmouth. Over the two games at Fresno State, UNLV registered a .426 team average at the plate with 29 hits in 68 at-bats.

  • Colorado State rapped out a season-high 18 hits in last Wednesday's 10-6 win over Northern Colorado. The victory moved the Rams to .500 (18-18) on the season for the first time since a 2-2 mark on Feb. 11.

  • UNLV's Tayler Aleman hit her 20th career home run during last week's twinbill at Fresno State, moving her into a tie for 10th place on the school's all-time list for career homers.

  • Boise State has won 23 straight games at Mountain Cove Softball Field, dating back to the 2010 season. That marks the third-longest active home win streak in the nation, trailing only Louisiana (33) and BYU (25). The Broncos' last loss on their home turf came in the first game of a May 1, 2010 twinbill against San Jose State, 7-6. BSU shut out SJSU, 15-0, in the nightcap to embark on its current 23-game streak.

  • Colorado State has amassed a total of 31 hits in its two wins over Northern Colorado this season (18 on Apr. 4; 13 on Mar. 28). The Rams and Bears will square off twice more in 2012, with the third game of the home-and-home non-conference series set for Wednesday.

  • San Diego State has hit 33 home runs through 36 games, which ranks as the second-most in a single season in program history. The school single-season record for home runs is 42, set by last year's squad.

  • Boise State's Tara Glover has recorded a league-best 56 hits in 2012. She is the sixth player in program history to record 50 hits in a single season.

  • New Mexico's Stefanie Carramusa (.857) and Jessica Garcia (.843) are on pace to shatter the program record for slugging percentage in a single season. Garcia set the current record with a slugging percentage of .801 in 2011.
