SAN DIEGO -
Aztecs Welcome Colorado State in Mountain West Opening Weekend
The San Diego State softball team begins its quest for a fifth Mountain West regular season title (and first since 2008) this weekend when it plays host to Colorado State in a three-game series. It will be the first home game for the Aztecs (18-19, 0-0 MW) since March 16.
SDSU and the Rams (18-18 entering Wednesday's game with Northern Colorado, 0-0 MW) will play Friday at 6 p.m. PT, Saturday at 1 p.m. PT and Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.
San Diego State hasn't played a game since March 28, when it lost a five-run lead in the bottom of the seventh inning in a 8-6 loss at No. 19/17 Arizona in eight innings. The Aztecs also dropped the March 27 contest with the Wildcats by an 8-0 margin in five innings.
Sophomore Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.) continues to lead SDSU in almost every offensive category. Miles, who has started all 92 games since she arrived on The Mesa, owns program single-season best numbers in batting average (.398), slugging percentage (.746), OPS percentage (OBP%+SLG%) (1.213) and doubles (15), and career records in batting average (.367), on-base percentage (.451), slugging percentage (.633) and OPS percentage (1.084).
Classmate Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) has missed 14 games due to injuries and illness, but still is tied with Miles for the team lead with eight home runs. Senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS), who recently broke the school's all-time RBI record (103), leads San Diego State with 28 RBIs, while senior Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) has a team-high nine stolen bases.
Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) (8-8, 2.15 ERA, 107.2 IP) and senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) (8-6, 2.39 ERA, 99.2 IP) lead a pitching staff that has a 2.53 ERA and six shutouts.
