For The Third Time, Oliveto Earns Weekly Award

April 16, 2013

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV's Amanda Oliveto was named the Mountain West's Pitcher of the Week for games played through April 14. Oliveto has earned the conference's weekly pitching award seven times in her career with three of those coming during the 2013 campaign.

Oliveto tossed a pair of four-hit shutouts in her two appearances in the circle last weekend against New Mexico. The Simi Valley, Calif., native registered a 0.00 ERA in 13.0 innings of work. She struck out 10 batters against one walk. More impressively, she only allowed one batter to reach third base in her outings. After fanning two batters and issuing her lone walk of the weekend in Friday's 8-0, six-inning victory, Oliveto backed up that performance with eight strikeouts in Sunday's 1-0 finale.

Oliveto is the first hurler since Christie Robinson to earn three citations in a single season. Robinson did so during the 2007 campaign. Overall, Oliveto is third in UNLV's record book for pitcher of the week recognition. Dating back to 1986, Oliveto ranks third behind Jacque Kerrigan's nine and Lori Harrigan's eight awards.

UNLV jumps out of conference play this week with a doubleheader at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, April 20. The games will take place at Anderson Family Field in Fullerton, Calif., with the first contest slated for a 1:00 pm first pitch.
