April 17, 2012

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - San Diego State senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.) has been named the Mountain West Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Tuesday. It is the sixth career weekly honor for the right-hander and the first of the season.

Micetich helped the Aztecs sweep Colorado State over the weekend in a three-game series to begin conference play. She pitched in both games of SDSU's doubleheader sweep on Saturday, going 1-0 with a save and a 1.91 ERA over 7 1/3 innings. Micetich struck out seven and walked just one, while limiting her opponents to a .281 average with only one extra-base hit out of the nine she allowed.

In the opener, Micetich got the win after giving up three runs (two earned) on nine hits and a walk over 6 1/3 innings. She struck out six and yielded one walk. In the nightcap, Micetich tossed a perfect seventh inning with a strikeout to earn the save in San Diego State's 6-5 come-from-behind victory.

On the season, Micetich is 9-6 with a save and a 2.36 ERA over 107 innings. She has 112 strikeouts against just 18 walks, and has held the opposition to a .248 average. Micetich ranks 18th in the nation in fewest walks allowed per seven innings (1.18), and ranks second in the MW in strikeouts, third in ERA and opponents' batting average, tied for fourth in saves and solo shutouts (2), and fifth in innings pitched.

The Aztecs head across town to compete at San Diego at 6 p.m. Wednesday, before resuming conference play at New Mexico this weekend (April 20-22).
