Aztecs Travel to New Mexico This Weekend for Key Three-Game Series
The San Diego State softball team travels to Albuquerque, N.M., this weekend for a key three-game series with New Mexico.
The Aztecs (22-19, 3-0 MW) and the Lobos (24-13, 0-0 MW) are scheduled to play at 6 p.m. MT Friday, 3 p.m. MT Saturday and 1 p.m. MT Sunday. Saturday's game will be broadcast live on The Mtn.
SDSU is coming off a 5-0 victory over San Diego on Wednesday behind a complete game one-hitter by senior Bailey Micetich (Woodland, Calif.). It was the fourth straight win for San Diego State, which got two RBIs apiece from sophomores Lorena Klopp (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) and Hayley Miles (Antelope, Calif.).
Miles continues to lead the offense in almost every category, including current program single-season bests in batting average (.420), on-base percentage (.490), slugging percentage (.794), OPS (OB% + SLG %) percentage (1.284), extra-base hits (27), doubles (15) and total bases (104). She also has a team-high 10 home runs and 41 runs (the next highest on the team is 16), the latter which is tied with Tiffany Goudy (2002) for tops in a season at SDSU. Additionally, Miles has reached base safely in 28 consecutive games and has a hit in 10 straight contests.
Senior Justeen Maeva (San Diego/Mira Mesa HS) is tied with Miles for the team lead in RBIs (29), while senior Felicia Reifschneider (San Diego/Morse HS) tops San Diego State in stolen bases (10) and sacrifice bunts (8). Freshman Kayla Jordan's (San Diego/Bonita Vista HS) four triples are one short of tying a single-season school record.
Redshirt junior Rebecca Arbino (Clovis, Calif./Texas A&M) (10-8, 2.20 ERA, 120.2 IP) and Micetich (10-6, 2.21 ERA, 114.0 IP) lead a pitching staff that has a 2.45 ERA and seven shutouts.
