Erin Jones is MW Hitter of the Week
April 23, 2013
Nevada junior infielder Erin Jones and Colorado State junior third baseman Chelsea Biglow will share MW Player of the Week accolades for games through April 21. This is the second career MW weekly award for Biglow and the first for Jones.
Jones hit .444 (4-for-9) with six runs batted in and two runs scored as Nevada registered its first Mountain West series sweep in a three-game set at New Mexico. Hailing from Antioch, Calif., Jones recorded at least one hit and one RBI in each game, tallying two walks and two home runs during that span to finish with on-base and slugging percentages of .545 and 1.111, respectively. On Friday, her three-run homer in the top of the fifth inning ignited a seven-run rally that propelled the Wolf Pack to the 9-6 victory. She had two hits and one RBI in Saturday’s 6-4 win, and also hit a two-run shot on Sunday as part of Nevada’s 10-1, six-inning triumph.
Biglow batted .500 (4-for-8) with two runs batted in and four runs scored while helping MW co-leader Colorado State to a 2-1 series win against Fresno State over the weekend. The Tigard, Ore., native collected three extra-base hits in the series, including one triple and two home runs, to post a 1.500 slugging percentage. Biglow recorded key hits in both ends of Saturday's doubleheader sweep of the Bulldogs. She hit a solo home run in the fifth inning of the opener to tie the contest at 1-1. In the bottom of the seventh with CSU trailing 2-1, Biglow reached base on a bunt single to advance the leadoff hitter to second, then scored the game-winning run two batters later for the 3-2 victory. In the nightcap, Biglow led off the fourth inning with a solo home run to spark a six-run rally as the Rams erased a 3-1 deficit and held on for the 7-4 win.
