Rebels Travel North To Face Nevada, Reno
April 24, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Rebels stay out on the road for another week with a three-game, Mountain West set in Reno, Nev., against the Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack this Friday through Sunday, April 26-28.
Friday's game is scheduled for a 3:00 pm first pitch. Saturday is set for 1:00 pm, while Sunday's finale has been pushed up to noon.
This will be the first meeting for UNLV and UNR as conference foes. The Wolf Pack and the Fresno State Bulldogs are new additions to the MW after each left the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) after the conclusion of the 2011-12 school year.
UNLV owns a seven-game edge - 12-5 - in the head-to-head series with its in-state foes dating back to 1985. The Rebels own a 7-3 mark in games played at home and sit 3-0 in neutral affairs. The record is 2-2 in contests played in Reno.
In addition, three points in the UNLV-UNR Governor's Series standings are up for grabs.
Games can be followed via GameTracker (live stats) with links located on UNLVRebels.com.
@UNLVSoftball - the program's official Twitter account - will have inning-by-inning updates during each game.
ABOUT THE SERIES: On Oct. 8, 2012, Nevada Governor Brian Sandoval announced the launch of the Governor's Series, presented by NV Energy. The historic, new competition establishes a formal head-to-head athletic and academic challenge between longtime, in-state rivals - the UNLV Rebels and the Nevada, Reno Wolf Pack. The all-encompassing competition will annually crown one school the winner of the Governor's Series.
As of April 24, UNLV owns a three-point advantage (13.5-10.5) over its in-state rival. On Thursday, April 25, UNLV and UNR will serve it up in the first round of the Mountain West Men's Tennis Championship in Colorado Springs, Colo. The Rebels won the regular-season meeting on March 28. On the women's side of the tennis tournament, the Lady Rebels and Wolf Pack could meet in Sunday's finale, if both squads advance to the championship bout.
ON DECK: The UNLV Rebels will return to Las Vegas to host their final games of the 2013 regular season. UNLV will welcome the Boise State Broncos to Eller Media Stadium for a three-game, Mountain West series on May 3-5.
The first game of the set is scheduled for a 6:00 pm first pitch on Friday, May 3. Saturday's contest (May 4) is slated for a 1:00 pm start, while Sunday's finale (May 5) is set for noon.
Sunday's contest has been designated as "Senior Day," and it will see five seniors suit up for their final home games for the Rebels. Those five are: Tayler Aleman, Heather Harrison, Samantha Henry, Katie Uriarte and Tara Woodall.
