Monreal Slugs Her Way To Weekly Award
April 30, 2013
LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - UNLV softball's Pauline Monreal was named the Mountain West's Player of the Week for games played through April 28. It's the second time in Monreal's career that she has been selected for the weekly honor after initially earning it during her freshman campaign on March 1, 2011.
Monreal, a junior, helped UNLV to a 2-1 record in its MW series at in-state rival Nevada, Reno last weekend. The La Mirada, Calif., native hit .333 (4-for-12) with four extra-base hits (three doubles and one home run), resulting in a .833 slugging percentage. She also added seven RBI and two runs to her weekly resume. In Friday's 13-2 win, she went 2-for-4 with two doubles and one walk. Her double in the first inning drive in two runs, giving UNLV a lead it would never relinquish. She knocked in two more runs in the seventh off another double, and scored a run of her own in the third after taking a walk. In Saturday's 5-4, eight-inning loss, she went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Her two-run double in the sixth helped the Rebels erase a two-run deficit and give them a brief 4-3 lead. In Sunday's finale, Monreal registered the equalizing hit to pull the Rebels even with the Wolf Pack. With the team down one score, she launched a solo home run to tie the game at 2-all. UNLV would not trail again en route to the 5-3 victory.
The Rebels return to action this week, May 3-5, with a three-game conference series in Las Vegas against the Boise State Broncos. These games represent the final ones play at home this season for UNLV. The opening game is this Friday and first pitch is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
