`Dogs Host Lobos in Final MW Showdown

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State softball hosts New Mexico in its final Mountain West series of the 2013 season. It is also the final home stand for the Bulldogs. The `Dogs host Bark in the Park on Saturday, May 4 and all dogs are allowed on the berm at Bulldog Diamond to enjoy the game in the canine cabana. On Sunday, Fresno State will celebrate the 2013 senior class prior to the game.

About New Mexico
The Fresno State vs. New Mexico series began in 1981 with the Lobos winning 2-1. The `Dogs have an overall record of 29-5 against New Mexico. The last meeting was in 2010 and the `Dogs won 8-2. The Bulldogs have won the last 11 games against the Lobos.

Scouting the Lobos
New Mexico has an overall mark of 21-29 and 3-9 in Mountain West action. The Lobos are in seventh place in the MW standings and are coming off a bye weekend. UNM won its last two games against UTEP. The Lobos are hitting .247 with eight triples, 18 home runs and 136 RBI. Mariah Rimmer leads the starters with a .333 average. She has six doubles, three home runs and a team-high 20 RBI. Rimmer also leads the team with 25 stolen bases. In the circle, New Mexico has an ERA of 4.28 with 216 strikeouts. Ace Lauren Soles has a 9-13 record with 101 strikeouts. She also has one shutout in 14 complete games and an ERA of 3.28.

Fresno State Leading the Nation
Sophomore Brenna Moss is tied for first in the nation in triples with seven. She is fifth in the country in triples per game with 0.15. The outfielder is also 34th in stolen bases per game with 0.54. Sophomore Maria Sio has 0.37 sacrifice hits per game and is fourth in the nation. As a team, the Bulldogs are 13th in the country in triples per game with 0.31 and have the 36th best fielding percentage (.969).

Freshman Duo Shut Down MW Foes
Although young in the circle, the Bulldog starting pitching duo of Jill Compton and Hannah Harris have done well against Mountain West foes. The staff has a combined ERA of 2.90 and the duo has given up 36 earned runs in 91.2 innings pitched. They also combined for eight complete games and 53 strikeouts. Compton has a 5-3 record with three shutouts and a 2.98 ERA, while Harris has a 2.42 ERA and allowed no earned runs in her appearances against Boise State and Nevada.

Home Is Where the Heart Is
The Bulldogs are off to a 15-3 start at Bulldog Diamond in 2013. Fresno State has an overall home record of 812-186-1 in 36 years. The best single-season home record at Bulldog Diamond is 27-0 set by the 1998 National Champion squad.

Moss Swiping Extra Bases
Sophomore Brenna Moss leads the team and the Mountain West in stolen bases. The outfielder has a total of 25 stolen bases, including tying her career-high of two stolen bases in a single game against Sacramento State. Her fifth stolen base of the season, allowed the game-winning run to score against Sacramento State. She needs three more stolen bases to set a new single season record.

Sacrificing Sio
Sophomore Maria Sio leads the Bulldogs and the Mountain West with 18 sacrifice hits. She is third in the country in sacrifice hits in 2013. Sio has recorded two sacrifice hits in a single-game twice.
