May 1, 2013

The San Diego State softball team travels to Fort Collins, Colo., this weekend for a huge three-game series with Colorado State.

The Aztecs (30-17) currently sit in first place in the Mountain West with an 8-4 record, while the Rams (21-22) are just a game back at 7-5. Fresno State and Nevada, meanwhile, are 1.5 games back at 8-7, while UNLV, SDSU's opponent the following weekend, is still in the mix at 6-6. The league's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament goes to the regular season champion.

San Diego State and CSU are scheduled to play at 4 p.m. MT Friday, 1 p.m. MT Saturday and 1 p.m. MT Sunday.

Nine of the Aztecs' 17 losses this season have come against nationally ranked schools, including four vs. 2012 Women's College World Series teams. Additionally, SDSU has played 16 teams who made last year's NCAA tournament.

Junior Lorena Bauer (San Diego/Steele Canyon HS) leads the MW in slugging percentage (.790) and total bases (113), and is second in batting average (.413), home runs (11), doubles (17), hits (59) and RBIs (41).

(17-11, 2.07 ERA, 179.1 IP) rank first and second, respectively, in the Mountain West in ERA and back a pitching staff that easily leads the conference ERA at 2.01 (Fresno State is second at 2.74).
